Baghdad, Iraq (Apr 23) – A series of explosions today in Iraq have killed at least 69 people and have wounded more than 100 others according to Al Jazeera. Three of the bombings were during Friday prayers at Shi’ite mosques in Baghdad and the other bombings occurred across Iraq. Most of the attacks were in Shi’ite areas and some were in Sunni areas.
The bombings come just a few days after two top members of Al-Qaeda were killed. The attacks seem to have been targeted at civilian populations. There have been a number of bombings in Iraq recently. Violence has decreased over the past two years, but has ignited again after the recent Presidential election had no clear winner.
