World (Apr 17) – The 40th anniversary of Earth Day is Thursday, April 22. According to Earth.org, the offical Earth Day web site, “Earth Day Network was founded on the premise that all people, regardless of race, gender, income, or geography, have a moral right to a healthy, sustainable environment.”
Their mission is simple and direct, “to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable environment.”
Through education, consumer activism, and public policy, Earth Day campaign and program networks are designed to energize the world’s population to “take action to secure a healthy future for itself and its children.”
This year’s event focus in Washington, D.C., includes a “list of distinguished and diverse talent” who are set to entertain on The National Mall at what is being called, “The Climate Rally.”
Eco-village exhibits, speeches, live music and more are scheduled. The National Mall hosted its first Earth Day in 1970.
With more than 20,000 organizations and partners in 190 countries, the Earth Day Network is a tax-exempt organization with its central office located in Washington, D.C.
