22 Reported Dead, 3 Injured in Nigerian Road Accident

Nigeria (Apr 14) – The Lagos State, Nigeria Police Command, has reported the death of 22 people who were burned to death, along with three others who were badly injured in a road accident when two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision along Akure-Owo Express Road in Ondo State, Nigeria. The accident involved an 18-seat Toyota Hiace bus and an Izuzu Min truck carrying aluminum rods. Reports indicate the Izuzu truck was struck as the driver of the Toyota Hiace bus tried to avoid a pothole.

No identification has been found making it difficult for the police to contact next of kin.

The three injured victims are currently being treated at the Federal Medical Centre, however, no further reports was made available on the health status of those injured.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Ondo State Command, Aremu Adeniran, cautioned drivers to reduce their speed and read. The expressway has clearly marked signs reading, “Slow Down, Road Under Construction.”
