Washington, D.C. (Mar 30) – Peoria, Illinois will play host to Vice President Joe Biden, Wednesday March 31st. According to the White House Press Release, the Vice President will be delivering “keynote remarks” at the “Partners in Peace” event at the Peoria Civic Center. The event is open press.

Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood and Senator Dick Durbin will accompany the Vice President to the event hosted by The Center for Prevention of Abuse. In 1994, then U.S. Senator Joe Biden, with support from numerous advocacy organizations such as the Legal Momentum and the National Organization for Women, drafted the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). This landmark Federal law assisted in the formation of the Peoria County Family Justice Center. Their Center became, and remains to this day, a “model for protecting individuals and families through inter-agency cooperation.”

Through collaborative effort, the Justice Center works with law enforcement agencies, the courts, and The Center for Prevention of Abuse enforcing the law. In addition, through the auspices of VAWA, the Center educates children, teens, and their community about abuse prevention.

The Vice President, along with Secretary LaHood and Senator Durbin, is scheduled to meet with “local small business owners and workers to discuss how the Recovery Act is helping to revitalize the Peoria community.” In addition, further discussion on how this Administration can continue providing assistance will be another topic for open discussion.

Biden, et. al, will be returning to Washington in the evening.
