Nigerian Religous Court order Human Right Activist to Close Facebook, Twitter Account

By: Victor Ulasi, Nigeria

The Sharia Court of Kaduna state, Nigeria has issued a court order to a human right activist who is the President of Civil Right Congress to close his Facebook, Twitter and other blog account for posting a blog in on Facebook about the amputation of arms in Zamfara state, which the Sharia Court considers anti-Islam.

The Civil Right Congress was said to have started a blog on Facebook and Twitter to raise awareness of the dangers of crime and consequences of choices and thereafter, to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Mallam Bello Jangebe whose arm was cut-off by the Sharia court of Zamfara state, Nigeria last ten years.

Arm amputation is not news in Northern Nigeria, most especially at the core north like Zamafara, Sokoto, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Adamawa state where the practice of Sharia is at its peak and a male could easily loss his arm just by having a handshake with a female Muslim.

However, the Association of Muslim Brotherhood of Nigeria founds the move made by the human right organization an act of intimidation to Muslims and against the teachings of Islam, thereby obtained a court order to stop the blog on Facebook, Twitter and other blogs.

The President of Association of Muslim Brotherhood of Nigeria, Ustaz Safiyan Abubakar said he does not find a reason why a human right organization should celebrate those that are condemned and punished, and the idea to celebrate a man who was found guilty by a Sharia Court under the teachings of Islam which led his arm to be amputated must have come from hell.

“I cannot understand the reason why Shehu Sani the President of Civil Right Congress wants to celebrate the arm amputation of Mallam Bello Jangebe, to the length that he wants to hold an anniversary for him. That’s mockery to Islam and we will not condone any act that is anti-Islam because this move by Shehu Sani does not support Islam but moves against Islam.”

In an interview with Islamic Clerics at the Sharia Court, they made it known that the Shehu Sani the has been running his human right organization out of the teachings of Islam and thereby undermining the authorities of “Allah”, and they would not sit back and watch someone insult their God in their presence.

To this end, Shehu Sani said that he looks forward to when Nigeria will allow transparency in all they do and allow they people to express their right even when they are assumed to be wrong, even the cowards deserves to be celebrated to discourage others from the act of cowardice.
