Despite David Cameron doing everything in his power to destroy any hope of a Conservative Government taking power and slipping further down opinion polls due to a fabulous mixture of idiocy and ignorance, I decided in my last post to swerve away from the usual politician bashing I tend to gravitate to and instead have a go at technology. Little did I know technology would bite back so quickly and at something I love so intensely. I am a bit of a gadget freak, despite my low income I love nothing more than playing with cool gadgets, computers, cameras etc. One of the regular joys I get in life is the couple of hours a day I try to fit on Modern Warfare 2 on the PlayStation3 online. If I can’t play on a certain day it doesn’t matter because I know it will be there when I need it.
You would be forgiven for forgetting all about the millennium bug, it happened a long time ago, mass panic swept the globe because people thought that when the counters in electronic appliences hit the year 00, the world would come to an end. I lost friends over that ludicrous idea, quite literally I cut a friend out because he was really panicked over it. I thought he was a fool. I was wrong.
Today, between shifts, I settled down for an hour of gaming. I took my regular seat, switched on my PS3 and got ready to go to war, it did not end well. It would appear that the wonderful people at SONY didn’t take into consideration leap years when they were designing the early model of the PS3, so instead of blowing stuff up I was left surfing the net to find out what exactly the newest error code to flash up on my screen meant. Imagine my horror when I found out that this code wasn’t just in my machine, but was a worldwide issue.
I realize that there are far more disturbing and sad news stories happening all over the world. Quakes and tsunami threats being the biggest right now. But this affects me directly, and as selfish as it sounds, that makes it more important. It would appear that instead of time moving from 28th Feb 2010 to 1st March 2010, it decided to move back in time to 31st Dec 1999, or 1st Jan 2000. Which is why I now slightly regret cutting out my paranoid friend. It would appear he was right. Although buying water and canned goods in a state of panic seems over the top, it is only a computer game after all, but still.
When asked why this has happened and forced players into a hard decision where we have to choose to upgrade to the newer slimline PS3 which is apparently fine, or move completely from these incompetent fools and join the Xbox 360, Microsoft family, SONY had nothing really to say except that it is a problem with the code and they are working “flat out” to fix it. If SONY can’t fix a problem in 24 hours, I tend to think that they can’t fix it. To begin with you have to be signed in to install upgrades, and how can you sign into a machine which, for all intents and purposes, isn’t aware it even exists yet. In my PlayStation’s mind it won’t be invented for another few years.
I sign off tonight unsure what tomorrow may bring. Will I be able to play war games, or will I be left pondering what I will do with my spare time. I guess there is an argument that given that I am 27 years old I shouldn’t seem so upset about computer games, but as I said to my mother, “You just don’t understand, by saying something like that just proves you have never experienced Modern Warfare 2 on the PlayStation 3. If you had, you would be as upset as I am.”

‘In my PlayStation’s mind it won’t be invented for another few years.’ – I’m so confused…
I don’t play games, at least not the PS3/Xbox type, so it’s hard for me to comment, however I do sympathise and I think I can understand, my laptop packed up AGAIN last week and I had to ship it over to my brother in law to get it fixed – I felt like someone had cut my arm off.
Give it time, I’m sure Sony will come through for you… unless this is a ploy to get everyone to go out and buy the slim one…
