The unfortunate alternative for many is to turn to State Welfare departments for assistance once they have exhausted all their benefits. This is not a pleasant thought for anyone. One must not own any “worldly” possession to qualify in most states, and must sell what they have before they are considered “destitute”, and then, only then qualify for Social Assistance.
These unfortunate Americans simply no longer count, or play a part in the “big picture” the “unemployment” numbers therefore, creating false statistics in the unemployment numbers. How convenient for that to happen right before Novembers elections.
Now I realize the economists or pseudo economists (republicans) will jump in here and debate this article however, since I am not up for “election” or “re-election” I intend on keeping this “real”.

I hope people read this very carefully. In other words, those who have drained all their assets, exhausted all their unemployment benefits, and have no where left to turn will: 1) end up still potentially jobless months from now; 2) without any means of income or assistance to live on through no fault of their own; and 3) potentially be out on the street without a shred of hope.
Manipulating the numbers, which we see government(s) do day in and day out, is a strategy devised for the “uneducated.”
What I hope your readers understand after reading this is that unemployed and still jobless, coupled with the added indignity of no longer being “counted,” is nothing but a political ploy. Either it will be touted as a “success” for re-election time or a failure (which it will be).
Here in Nevada, our rate of unemployment is said to be 13%. It is much higher of course because many have or soon will exhaust all forms of help/unemployment benefits. Today’s classified ads reflected around 50 jobs (most scams) for 100s of 100s of 10000s of people out of work. It is with resentment that anyone make a remark that people should “just get off their butts and get a job.” If you think it is that easy, then step down from yours (if you have one) and give it to any person whose been struggling for months and months and months just trying to find anything. Take a walk in the unemployed person’s shoes, then you have the right to speak. If not, please shut up.
To add to this insult, a potentially large job project (1,000 people expected to be hired) for an alternative energy project here in Nevada has been “farmed out” to a mixture of a Chinese-backed company and a company based in Texas. WHERE is the use of manpower and resources within our own State to generate JOBS? There WAS such a company slated to begin hiring within our State, individuals in our State. But apparently, the powers that be said, “Up yours” and gave it away.
JOBS had best be the next thing tackled and a heck of a lot faster than all this b.s. we’ve all been living with – or soon there will be 100,000s (millions??) out on the streets starving.
Economics and those that “forecast” a recovery are doing nothing but burying their heads (or other body parts) in the sand hoping the rest of us are too ignorant to really see what is playing out there.
Once again I thank WorldNewsVine for keeping this issue in the forefront. And encourage everyone to engage their brains and re-read if necessary. There is a serious issue right in front of our faces and no sugar-coating is going to make it magically go away.
I’d apologize for the rant, but I won’t. These ARE serious times requiring serious solutions! If you are unemployed, I totally understand. If you have a job, just remember no one is irreplaceable. It very well could be you next (only too late to get any help).
Speak up, speak loudly, and never give up! Contact your Representatives in Washington. We put them their to work FOR us!

The real question is why did the GOP mandate that this program could not use “TARP” monies readily available.
The only logical and truthful explanation is that the GOP considers TARP monies for their “rich” friends, and unemployment monies for us second class Working Americans… The GOP has left the American Worker to suffer once again.
The most underhanded move the GOP ever made was having the newly elected Senator from Massachusetts (a republican) sworn into office prior to the Senate coming back to chambers when, in fact the Democrats would have still have had the power to push the original House Bill (using TARP monies) through the Senate.
Makes one wonder if the GOP in reality knows that the TARP money still needs to be made available for their rich friends that played a big part in this “Crash” for they will soon enough need the monies again to fund their huge bonuses.

Opinion piece and debatible. Hard to take the article as serious, when so little time was put in to accurately portraying the “real” numbers which would constitute some research had been accomplished.

Factual accurate, and to the point… let’s hear you side of the story… In my honest opinion…
This article spells out the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.. In fact, if the Editor spent anymore time trying to explain this in lay terms, it would begin to sound like nothing more than GOP bs and dribble..
The facts are simple, the GOP sabotaged this entire program by failing to allow TARP monies to be used, meanwhile giving no credible ideas to resolve the problem they created, the “Greatest Recession” in the United States of America..
Well done, Robert – this was exactly the answer most of us have been searching for…

I suppose your “feedback” would be a bit more credible if you would only at least spell check your posts…
I can read and it clearly states Sources: U.S. Department of Labor, Thomas (Library of Congress)
Which brain-dead republican are you receiving your “non-information” from? You only state a somewhat “empty” opinion of your own…
It would appear to me that WorldNewsVine is one of the few news sites on the web that are willing to tell Americans the truth… I am certain that if you simply post a comment explaining where you are getting lost/confused with the article, someone will help you out..

It is still his opinion. He did NOT get this information (not talking about his figures-which he could have provided in more detail) concerning in “his opinion” there will be NO more tiers. In fact, there will be more tiers coming in the near future as substantiated by several key Senators in phone calls made to the legislators offices.
As for your lovely, negative comment, if my spelling is the worst of my mistakes, excuse me-I did not realize the spelling police were on this site.
As to the negative Republican remark-I’ll let you slide on that one as obviously, you feel the need to denigrate based on “Assumptions”.
People who write about the long term unemployment problem, should at the very least provide accurate and timely information. It is a fact that by May, 1.5 million unemployed will have completely gone through all of the benefit tiers and FYI, that information is available on the DOL website as well.

If you ask me you could simply cite your sources, and I really doubt you would recognize an oped piece from a comic strip which, is what your responses read as..
There is not shred one of an article on the network, nor a single Senator stating anywhere that more “Tiers” as you refer will be added… try a cup of joe, it may wake you up into the world we like to call reality
It would appear you have a reading comprehension problem, what you are spewing as “your facts” and the “authors opinions” is nothing more than repeating what the author has said, by July 2010 with the decrease in the number of people being counted as unemployed, and less Americans becoming unemployed, then it is obvious that this “bill” is a waste of time for as you, oh brainchild, have pointed out, if 1.5 million are dropped from the rolls, that will lower the 9.7 percent below the 8.5% requirement to invoke these “Tiers”
Now, exactly what do you still not understand.. I would love to see these “additional programs” in writing that you are speaking off.. in other words, put up or shut-up

Keep it civil.
Anita Job, if you have something of newsworthy value, or insider information than simply share it with us all.
I have read this same misguided talk all over the internet, WorldNewsVine has phone calls into Press Secretaries in Washington at this time. As of this writing, there are no new bills on the table to increase the number of weeks of unemployment benefits to any of America’s unemployed.
The current piece of legislation, which far lacks the necessities of this nations unemployed at this moment falls well short of the promise to extend unemployment compensation to all, until the end of 2010
The both of you can take the name calling to those “other” news sites that gear to exactly that. This is a news site that provides news, and a sounding board for viewers to reply

I hope they pass this bill. The senate has added an amendment that extends medicare payments to ambulance companies in rural areas. If this doesn’t pass the ambulance service I work for will be reducing coverage to citizens and cutting pay to there employees.

Thanks for the information regarding the components of the bill…
I believe we are hoping for the best and keeping our fingers crossed that at least one elected official will step-up to the plate and submit a bill to add additional weeks to cover those about to exhaust their benefits regardless, of the extensions..

This article feeds right into the fears and uncertainty a person who is unemployed is already thinking in the back of their head. It plays into the cynicism we all have about government and that fact is government has not been working for the people in a very long time.
Please use better judgment when providing information for the unemployed. This is nothing more than a well-written conspiracy theory. Everyone in the know and who have truly been following the story about the unemployed have seen a great deal of transparency brought to the process.
Just three short months ago, unemployed Americans watched Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) stand up for them. The democrats in the Senate are well aware of the dire job market. They have not let the American people down yet providing assistance with unemployment insurance.
They have witnessed Republican after Republican vote “No” to their benefits. They have watched Tom Delay state on national television, “Persons are unemployed because they choose to be.” They have watched Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) hold up the entire process for the latest bill to extend filing dates. They have heard Sen Jon Kyl’s (R-AZ) comments about how “unemployment insurance is not motivation for getting a job”.
If anyone is planning a political conspiracy it is the Republicans. Think about it. They said from the beginning they want the Obama Administration to fail. They won governor’s races and Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat by campaigning against bad economy and high unemployment rates. It would not be to their benefit in November if unemployment rates are lowered.
This story is an interesting “story”. It does nothing to raise the spirits of the unemployed. It does play into fears. If anyone has learned anything yet it is the Obama Administration operates on hope – not fear.
If unemployment numbers start soaring down dramatically over the next few months I will owe this author an apology. However, the American people are smart enough to know the gravity of the situation. This is the worse financial crisis in 100 years and it rivals the Great Depression.
Tier 4 was created to only be six weeks. The perfect number to add 14 weeks for an even twenty. If anything, the democrats are working on getting Americans jobs or for the unemployed who have been out of work for nearly two years there may be public works projects coming soon.
This Congress will answer the call to assist those who are near exhausting their benefits. Now is not the time for the American people to doubt their elected officials. Now is the time to acknowledge the good they have done and stay in touch with them. This is the most transparent government the American people have had in a very long time.
The unemployed need to know their government is working for them until they can secure employment.

To begin, it is intuitively obvious that you came in to simply draw attention to your “blog” that said, listen up:
If any additional weeks of unemployment are added via a separate bill it will simply happen as direct results of articles like this, lying to the unemployed in this country is one thing I will not tolerate on this web site. You are dangerously close usunemployed.
This article spreads AWARENESS whereas you are requesting WorldNewsVine to begin acting like a group of politicians and shield the American unemployed from the truth.
Well, us unemployed that is simply not going to happen this is WorldNewsVine – We’re What Free Speech is About and is why I am not banning you simply coming in to ridicule that of which you have no idea… Conspiracy theory? I suppose a statement such as 2 plus 2 = 4 adds up to a conspiracy theory in whichever world you live in.
u.s. unemployed position is nothing more than an inept solution which, is to simply lie to the unemployed, or put forth some “theory” of yours that help is on the way. If you have been following the real “news” about unemployment extensions on WorldNewsVine, you will have notice that statement(s) regarding “additional weeks” have been made over and over again.
I quickly visited the “link” you used to identify yourself to simply draw visitors to your site, which is as cheap a shot, tacky, and as unprofessional as your reply.
U.S. Unemployment what you are saying is that your little blog simply prefers the GOP tactic and lie to your readers about their current economic situation.
You will not find that style of advice on WorldNewsVine, in fact I fear for those that have stumbled upon your site and accepting your advice as the gospel.
You do not offer your readers any valued advice by simply selling them a dish of ice cream, and tell them “And by the way, did I tell you, you’ll need to stand there with an empty dish, until someone buys some ice cream”
The situation surrounding the unemployed is no joke, and your comments embarrassingly trivialize every unemployed American that has been told that, this bill will be extending benefits until December 31, 2010 when in fact for millions it does not.
Grant it this “bill” helps millions but it is being advertised as something that it is not.

Part of putting your writing out for public display is the reality that not all may agree with your opinion and or the presentation of facts. I believe you were attempting to create a positive message. Unfortunately, your attacks negate any dialogue and that is a shame.

I think you are missing the boat on what this post conveys. The point being that as people drop off the rolls of unemployment due to exhausting their benefits, of course the numbers are going to “look better.”
However, the truth is that those still unemployed, and now totally without monies, just will not be COUNTED. As any economist knows, manipulating numbers is what it’s all about. You can make anything look good, but it still smells to high heaven.
Also, what do you have against a news site doing its best to inform? Sorry to say, but you sound like one of those crazy Tea Baggers (who I’ve been informed have changed their name due to a whole different subject I won’t go into here) who follow the party line no matter how distorted the message.

I enjoy a good debate as well as the next person, but I have to agree with Scott W. that the post was clear cut and well defined for the “lay person.”
I appreciate the fact that the editor and journalists on this website take the time to hammer home the urgency of this problem. If you read today’s Parade magazine (I believe it’s in that Sunday section), you’ll see that the U.S. is in a world of hurt jobs wise. Thus, unemployment benefits become even more critical.
In fact, the article in Parade states that unless we focus on education (we are in the teens worldwide versus #1 back in the 1960s), we are going to be totally s.cre.wed. To add to the misery, “forecasters” are now predicting it won’t be until 2016 if/when we come out the other side of this whole mess (that yes, the party in power of the last decade, the Republicans, need to take full responsibility for – be honest, they were pulling the strings and voters for that party really put us all in a huge nasty fix).
Regardless, what I would like to know is what in the world will so many, many, many do money wise assuming the projections are correct. The article also states other countries are getting the jobs we should be keeping here at home (and that we are willfully allowing them to take away from us – my paraphrasing).
Anita you must (currently) have a job or you’d be freaking out with the rest of us. I hope you have a good working attitude and grab onto that job with both hands, because if (or when) you lose it, you’ll understand the full magnitude to this whole mess. Then you will understand the need for a clear-cut presentation of federal monies and State-by-State unemployment situations when it comes to those who cannot find a job. Why don’t you move here to Nevada and see life as it really is… at its very worst?

To the editor, I believe you wrote a fine article and are right on with what will happen if another tier is not added. I don’t get the debate over what you said as far as the numbers dropping because that is what will happen once people are off the rolls. And as far as people saying you are using “fear”, which I don’t believe. If “fear” is the truth, that should do all the saying. People really need to wake up. As far as politics go though, republicans have a knack for using peoples “fears” to get elected. Look at the 2004 presidential election…

Thanks for the reply Don,
I really don’t understand some of the above comments either. The article simply points out that the changes to the bill forced by the GOP, in part the removal of the use of TARP monies, lacks the “teeth” the original bill from the house sent up.
If the original bill was left intact then, then millions would not be expiring their “Tiers” consequently reflecting the true numbers, the numbers necessary to keep this “plan” active for those that have not “run the gambit” through the “Tier” system hence, “The False Hope”.

@Don – that’s what my biggest worry is – the inability for people to see the forest for the trees. Here we’ve arrived in the 21st century and people can still be manipulated as if 2000 or 3000 years have not passed.
What it takes is being on the losing side. I don’t care if you’re a GOP or DEM follower. The point is we are all people – and there’s a whole bunch of them/us out there needing real help.
Politics should be shelved. Lives are at stake here. Re-election? Can’t anyone think about the here and now?????
