Washington – The former baseball pitcher turned Senator finally agreed to an amendment that was placed before the Senate by himself last week to remove “black-liquor” from the energy exemption list, and allow the emergency stop-gap bill to move forward in the Senate.
This opened the bill for final debate whereas, Senator Dick Durbin took to the plate for Americans, and hit an in park homerun. Countering every “sales-pitch” Bunning could throw, Senator Durbin made the case successfully.
The House Bill passed last week, H.R. 4691 to allow an emergency 30-day extension of the Unemployment provisions, COBRA extensions, Highway funding, and Medicare reimbursements to doctors is headed to President Obama’s desk.
Senate Majority Leader Reid has stated he would like a bill written to extend the aforementioned benefits through the end of 2010. This could only be labeled as the smartest move this Congressional body could have or should have accomplished weeks ago. A bill of this nature would free Congress from wasting time every 6 or 7 weeks, fighting over aid to American’s and work on repairing this economic crisis, focusing on putting Americans back to work.
Thankfully, Major League Baseball now requires players to wear helmets at bat, a safety net to prevent “former” athletes such as Bunning, from sustaining “head” injuries prior to entering office.
This is breaking news, check back for more updates.

Excellent information and a short-stop breath of fresh air (to continue with the baseball analogy). Reid is absolutely correct. Just pass the darn bill through to the end of the year and be done with it.
As if the American families suffering from unemployment and the lack of jobs aren’t stressed enough, having to hold their collective breaths every month should shame those in Washington who just do not give a damn about the citizens of this country… only what they can get for themselves.
Bunning (affectionally called Butthead in my book) should slink away or shut his mouth and vote to support Americans. Never mind that he won’t have to worry about money when he leaves office with his bank account stuffed with pensions and benefits for the rest of his life. Apparently the rest of us can rot.
So hats off to the stop gap measure and President Obama’s next move. Hear! Hear! to Reid, Dina Titus, and all the rest who DO give a damn about what happens to all Americans!
Let’s just get this over with and make the extension permanent for 2010 and see where 2011 leads us.
