Bones found in Rosslyn, home of the Grail.

Human remains have been found under the floor in the chapel made famous in Dan Browns novel, The Da Vinci Code.  Rosslyn Chapel is an ancient building near Edinburgh in Scotland, built by William St Clair, it is filled with intricate stonework and religious symbolism.  It featured in the movie adaptation of the book which starred Tom Hanks.

The ideas posed in the book, which were stolen from an older, more interesting, better written and not so dumb book ‘Holy Blood, Holy Grail’ suggest that Jesus married and had a child with Mary Magdalene, and that the secrets of the subsequent bloodline were guarded by the St Clair family at Rosslyn.  That is the basics of the book, throw in a terrible haircut and worse director and you have the Da Vinci Code movie.

The reported findings are sure to become massive news, despite the suggestions that the bones could be that of an animal…  If that is the case, it must have been a pretty special animal to warrant a burial in the chapel…  Maybe the dog of Christ, I’m not sure if that is blasphemous.  Write in and let me know.  I doubt that any animal would be buried in a chapel, and I doubt even more that anyone could mistake animal bones for human bones.  What hasn’t been reported however, is that a full human skeleton has been found close to the area of the first discovery and has been left in situ, as it won’t be disturbed by the work happening around it.

More than likely the bones are that of a stonemason, or builder responsible, in part, for the intricate and beautiful work on display.  The chances of it being a Knight Templar or a member of the St Clair family are slim as they have their own chamber deep underneath the chapel, which has been sealed for many years… The chances of it being the mummified head of Jesus, or the bones of Mary Magdalene are even slimmer as these bones seem to have been found with general ease, and given the amount of searching over the years for the Holy Grail, to think that it was hidden just under the floor is fairly laughable.

Until the people at Rosslyn feel fit to release information about the bones, which I’m sure they will do when they know for certain, I’m sure journalists like the one who wrote the piece for STV website will continue to speculate and drum up interest in his website first and the historic site second.  I for one will be on the edge of my seat until there is an official statement.  It has nothing to do with the short time in my life that I genuinely believed I was related to Jesus, and everything to do with my interest in such an engaging theory.

Expect updates.

The Da Vinci Code wasn’t all that bad considering the main star, a former member of “Saturday Night Live” attempted to play the part of a “straight” priest (God, I hope I am on topic with this) and surprisingly enough discovered the secret by simply cutting himself shaving (Probably not as action packed as “Saving Private Ryan”, or “The Green Mile” anyway)… If these “human remains” turn out to be something other than as you state “a mason/worker” I shall be prepared to eat my own words although…. The “Holy Grail” according to the Da Vinci code was to actually be the remains of the “Virgin Mary” wasn’t it?

I think if it were to be animal remains it will probably turn out to be a sheep, or pet sheep, or…. Definitely keep us up to date on this one… hh

I can’t think for the life of me who that priest is. Haven’t watched the movie in a while. The Mary referenced in Grail stories is Mary magdalene, who was vilified by the church and is refered to as a whore… One of the dead sea scrolls was written by her. It caused quite the controversy upon it’s dicovery and translation because either the church made up the prostitute stories or Jesus hung out with a known lady of the night.

Wow — I definitely missed out on an entire or major plot of the movie which, would explain why that Albino looking dude was trying to “whack” her…

Tom Hanks was the priest… through all the hub-bub of the movie he discovered the “secret” when he cut himself shaving and the “bloodline” pointed to the sink drain.. for whatever that’s worth

Without sounding like a total sadcase….Tom Hanks played Robert Langham who was a historian not a priest, but yes he did discover the blood line secrect whilst shaving. If only he had shaved first off it would have saved a lot of plot and a lot of the albino dude killing people. C’est La Vie!

This is an intresting article HH – keep us posted!

Hello Henry. Can’t wait to hear what they find out about the bones.

Is that true about one of the Dead Sea scrolls being written by Mary Magdalene? Do you have any references for this (not doubting, just interested)?

    I found this:

In a Cairo bazaar in 1896, a German scholar happened to come across a curious papyrus book. Bound in leather and written in Coptic, this was the Gospel of Mary.

I am continuously surprised at the number of people who are ignorant of the fact that the Holy Blood, Holy Grail book has been long discredited and most of its claims exposed as hoaxes. I would have expected better research for someone writing a news article. Believing in such theories quenches our human thirst for the fantastic, but you have to adopt a scientific approach to gain any credibility, in any field.

I have published the long-awaited update on this story, and sent the link to no fewer than 50 UK newspapers.  It is interesting that NOT ONE has shown any interest at all.  Here is that link …

If you are interested, I have several articles on Rosslyn Chapel on my website at mythomorph
    All Best,
