Kabul, Afghanistan (Mar 18) – Joint Security forces operating in various regains of the country discover drugs, weapons, and detained several insurgents.
In a search near Nad-e Ali district ISAF forces located a weapons cache containing 5 kilograms of home explosives, an 81mm mortar round, two 60mm mortar rounds, three 60mm fin tails, six rocket-propelled grenades, along with a wide variety of IED- making materials.
During a search in compound near Sanjeray, joint forces captured a Taliban IED cell leader along with, two other insurgents. While approaching the terrorist, the leader identified himself, and surrendered.
A search of a compound in Khost, resulted in the detention of several suspected militants. Intelligence information indicated militant activity in the area prompting Afghan-international security forces to investigate.
Another Taliban IED sub-commander was captured in Paktiya last night, as a joint security force searched a compound outside the village of Lewan. The Taliban sub-commander was responsible for training other militants in the building and emplacement of IED’s along with damage assessment.
A firefight broke out in the Shah Wali Kot district with a large group of insurgents using AK-47’s, RPGs and heavy machine guns. Air support was called in to suppress the fire. ISAF aircraft dropped a number of precision guided bombs on the positively identified insurgent positions, killing all the insurgents.
In the Bakwah District of Frah Province yesterday, a two large narcotic caches were seized. The first cache consisted of 17 kilograms of morphine, 200 kilograms of opium, various processing chemicals, and multiple bags of heroin.
The second cache, discovered approximately 1 kilometer away by a separate patrol, consisted of 2,000 litres of liquid opium, a large pile of heroin, and opium. Various processing chemicals and equipment were also seized in the operation.
The drugs and equipment were destroyed on sight.
No Afghan civilians were harmed during these operations.
