5000 Nigerian Youths to March to National Assembly on March 16th

By Eromo Egbejule, Nigeria

Apparently urged on by the state of the Nigerian economy and the intricacies surrounding the health of the Nigerian government, a select group of Nigerian youths and young celebrities under the coalition of Enough is Enough Nigeria! have decided to stage a peaceful protest march to the National Assembly, seat of Nigeria’s parliament.

In different statements released by Chude Jideonwo, one of the co-coordinators of the project and front-line youth activist founder of the Fix Nigeria Movement, Ohimai Amaize informed WorldNewsVine that the march is scheduled for the 16thof this month with an estimated 5000 people participating. The organizers want to, in the words of the latter to “storm the city of Abuja to articulate concrete demands for credible leadership” and are angered by the fact that the Nigerian citizenry has been “taken for granted” by the central government. Their demands are for the president to either resume,  resign or be removed from office before the end of this month, as well as a concreteplan to end the electricity problem in the country before the end of this month and deliver at least the 6000 megawatts of electricity promised last December. Lastly, the group demands the current fuel crisis to be dealt with once and for all within two weeks!

According to the group, the activism and the battle to fight-for-rights should not be left only to the older generation led by Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, a radical preacher; Tunde Bakare, andlegal luminary Femi Falana. This, apart from the apathy for ineffective governance  influenced the protest decision.

Campaigns have been stepped up on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter, as well as on several other local community forums, such as whereisyaradua.com and enoughisenoughnigeria.com.  Different groups/discussion boards on these sites have been kept alive by passionate youths and celebrities including prominent writers, musicians, and alike.
