Senate to vote on jobs bill | Will unemployment be addressed this week?

Is this our future? Will this be "Small Town USA" in the very near future?

February 22, 2010 – Senate Majority Leaders’ Jobs Creation bill should hit the Senate floor today for a vote. With little backing from either party, the outcome should be interesting.

For millions of unemployed Americans and their families, the pressing matter centers on jobs creation and assistance. This package should be sustainable and need not be revisited for the next 10 months. If so, this will free up our elected officials to begin concentrating on the real issue: rejuvenating an economy destroyed during the last administration and getting the unemployed back to work. In the meantime, those waiting in the wings may be actually left out in the cold if Congress does not act this week and extend the lifeline to those that need it most.

One can recall that Congress was quick to pass and hand out billions to the fat cats that caused this mess, and now are very slow at helping out those that have suffered at the hands of the extremely wealthy campaign contributors. What a sad state of affairs for the United States. Whatever happened to “We the People” and the right to be heard, a voice that our forefathers fought so proudly for?

In today’s times, if one even mentions their displeasure, alarm bells begin to sound, electronic (at minimum) surveillance begins and all liberties end. Are we really the same USA that was declared over 200 years ago? Or have we simply slipped into the deep end and become no better than the countries most Republicans consider the “enemy”?

Within today’s society, social structure depends on the ability to earn a living based on the issuance of hard cash or currency. Gone are the days of trapping, farming, and self dependence . I am certain those times were neither the easiest nor the simplest. But since then, have we really matured as a society or have we simply become an anthill colony where the many work the hardest for the few? As it is, we seem to either die defending someone we never will get to meet and know or by sacrificing our own energies to provide warmth and shelter to the same.

With all that said, isn’t it time that our elected officials begin to represent “We the People” once again and stop this two tiered social-economic strategy.

Call your Representatives in Washington this week and let them know where you stand on mandating passage of an emergency unemployment extension that will help stabilize the economy instead of causing more harm.
