America tells UK… Do as we say.
If you put aside all the important news stories this week, crying pop stars, 3 year old celebrity children in make up and the death of someone who made clothes for a living, then you might have found a little story stuck in the back, that has continued to push through, determined to be heard… The little story that could, if you will.
It all began when British Foreign Secretary David Miliband, who could very well be the creepiest person on the planet right now, demanded that documents showing the complicity of the UK Government in torturing British citizen Binyam Mohamed alongside the CIA, who arrested Mr Mohamed (pictured below on right) in Pakistan in 2002, be kept a secret. Since then he has been subjected to a torture world tour at the hand of the Americans, so far the only reason for thinking the Ethiopian refugee was a terrorist seems to be the colour of his skin. Let’s face it, in 2002 there were people tortured by the Americans and the Brits for less.
Over the last few days creepy Dave and his comrade Alan Johnson, Home Secretary, have been defending their actions in attempting to squash the story, Johnson even did a little crying over it I heard, as that seems to be how the Labour Government get things done these days*.
Today the Americans have voiced their disappointment at the court ruling to release the documents. A miscellaneous spokesperson for the American Government said it will “complicate intelligence sharing in the future.” I don’t feel I have to point out what a relief that is. In case I do, America has never been known for it’s intelligence during war time… America excels at blowing stuff up, and the Brits handle the intelligence, it worked a treat in WW2, as I have mentioned before, why did it change this time around, particularly when George W Bush was in charge, when there is a genuine case for him being the dumbest man to ever get that far in politics.
Apparently Hilary Clinton has already forgiven the UK after talking to Miliband (pictured below on left), which you would kind of expect from Hil-dog, she is known for her forgiving nature and appreciation of a good excuse… Just ask Bill. Others don’t seem so quick to forgive, but it doesn’t really matter, I doubt the British Government will miss out on anything, a little racial profiling here, a few bad coordinates there.. I think the UK will be all good.
I get that there are some things that should be shielded from the public, fear mongering is already at a level that threatens to consume everyone’s minds, we don’t need to know absolutely every little threat or Intel. We do, however, have the right to know when a foreign Government, friend or foe, is torturing our citizens, that is our call, and the judges in this case got it right. If he was a “terrorist” and there was any other reason for thinking he was other than the colour of his skin, then we have the right to know.
It is the same attitude as the US had about Gary McKinnon the computer hacker, or the Lockerbie Bomber**. If the person in question is a British citizen, or committed a crime on British soil, then it has absolutely nothing to do with America. So ask nicely and we will see about fixing this broken, once special, relationship.
*This is not pro Conservatism, I would rather be Governed by a rabid dog with a taste for my blood in particular… I just want Labour to man up and take control.
** For reasons America have no say in what Britain do with their own prisoners…

I would shiver at the site of seeing either one of them in a dark alley at night… I am little confused though, is the guy on the right the terrorist, and the one on the left the CIA torturer?
The reason I ask is the guy on the right looks like a republican to which, you should always fear running into. The GOP being the true “terrorists” of modern day history has me a little confused regarding the article. I mean it has been rumored the republicans cross-dress themselves, consume large quantities of alcohol/narcotics and torture each other for fun. I think there is actually some sexual term for all of that again, not certain.
Thanks for the comment Scott. The guy in the suit is David Milliband, the other guy is the suspected terrorist. I think I would rather bump into a suspected terrorist in a dark alley than David Miliband… He creeps me out big time.
