Bishop foretells catastrophe in Nigeria

Bishop Idowu FearonThe Bishop of the Kaduna state, Nigeria, Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Dr. Josiah Idowu-Fearon has foretold that unless politicians in Nigeria practice politics with decorum and shun the do or die affair syndrome in the Nigerian politics, Nigeria would soon be in a crisis situation that would split up the country if care is not taken.

The Bishop stated the fact that politicians are stakeholders in the corporate existence of Nigeria and should therefore, allow the ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua to be properly healed before dragging him into contesting for a second term in 2011 if fit thereafter.

He called every Nigerians to support unity government and see each other as one; also, the practices of politics with tribal, ethnic, and religious sentiments in Nigeria must be stopped because Nigeria belongs to no particular tribe or religious group.

“One single religious community in Nigeria cannot and will never put any politician from the Local Government Chairman office to become a governor. I therefore appeal to politicians to use whatever faith they profess in getting the support and respect of those citizens outside their religious community”

“I say without doubt that any political office holder in Kaduna state who attempts to play both the religious and ethnic or tribal card will certainly fail. Kaduna State deserves purposeful, people-oriented, and focused governance which can only come through a multi-religious and detribalized administration,” Idowu-Fearon said.

Speaking on the health status of the President of Nigeria, he said allowing Yar’Adua to get properly healed was important so that there won’t be a repeat of the situation where the president had been overseas for medical treatment in the past 54 days.

“Yar’adua, even if he wants to contest, I’ll counsel that he seeks healing for himself first so that we do not have a repeat of what we have now where he travels for over a long time. Even if he’s not well, I will plead we allow him to look after his health for the sake of himself and his family.”

He therefore appealed to the state government to repair the bad roads in Kaduna state, to ease the transportation problem being faced by the people of the area.
