It would seem that the right-wing conservative GOP propaganda machine has done its job of scaring people over socialized medicine. It would seem they have even influenced even some of the DNC into the elimination of a National Healthcare System. Perhaps one of the worst tactics was so skew the facts so as to scare senior citizens into thinking their Medicare would be impacted. The GOP are masters of fear mongering and smear campaigning so it is no wonder that they tend to get their agendas through.
Instead of a National Healthcare System, the compromise was to create a not-for-profit private health insurance company overseen by the Office of Personnel Management. Only a deluded politician could see this as any kind of option whatsoever because a well-known healthcare umbrella organization, Blue Cross Blue Shield is a – you guessed it – not-for-profit organization. BCBS has committed rampant abuses against paying customers and were some of the leaders in the clauses to deny healthcare. My gosh, business, finance, and industry over the past 9 years has had virtually no oversight whatsoever – what makes those fools think that this can work!? It was only the most egregious of abuses that were prosecuted. To try and bolster the argument some, our brilliant elected officials build in a trigger mechanism to convert it into a full National Healthcare System? You and I both know that it would take an act of God, the parting of the seas, whatever – to enforce this trigger mechanism.
Ordinarily, I am no fan of Senator Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin) but I have to give it up for him in his steadfast refusal to vote for anything less than a public option. He obviously cares more about his ordinary mom and pop constituents than accepting payoffs from King Insurance. He knows we can afford this system – we just have to stop Georgie Dubbya’s little war and divert those funds to pay for it. There will still be plenty of money left over so you elderly, don’t get your blood pressure up, Medicare will still be around. Lord knows, when I reach your age, I want it available for me too.
I’ll conclude by reminding the American public that President Barak Obama has failed to deliver on his campaign promise to champion a National Healthcare System. To me, this was the sole reason I voted for him. I realized that in order to have a productive, efficient, and world-leading America, we need to have a healthy America: an America where everyone gets access to quality care. We especially have to do this to deliver threatening moves against corporations that would seek to abuse!
