UNICEF speaks out against child deaths in northern Nigerian clashes

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) today lamented the deaths of a number of Nigerian children in clashes in the north of the country, with most of those taking part in the violence being young people.
According to media reports, the majority of the dozens killed in the fighting on Monday in Bauchi were children.

Afghanistan: top UN envoy voices concern over mounting civilian toll

ISAF Questions Claims of Civilian Casualties, Calls for Joint Investigation of Kunar Incident

Coalition and Afghan Security Force entered the village of Ghazi Khan in the Narang district of Kunar Province, in order to locate a known insurgent group responsible for a series of violent attacks in the area. As the joint assault force entered the village, they came under fire from several buildings and in returning fire killed nine individuals. Several assault rifles, ammunition, and ammonium nitrate used in bomb-making were discovered.

Afghan insurgents kill CIA agents, Canadians | Reuters

Insurgents intensified their campaign against military targets and U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan, killing eight U.S. CIA agents at a base and four Canadian servicemen on patrol and a journalist accompanying them.

U.S. officials said the dead Americans — killed in a suicide bombing on a military base in southeastern Khost province on Wednesday — were CIA agents.

It was one of the highest foreign non-military death tolls in the eight-year war against the Islamist Taliban.

The four Canadians and the journalist from the Calgary Herald were killed when their armored vehicle was hit by a bomb in southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, the Canadian Defense Ministry said.

Military demands resignation of Nigerian President

Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa stated that the country is drifting because of the President’s lack of capacity as evidenced by his frequent absence and lackluster performance; our political leaders are compounding our problems by declaring that the nation would be thrown into crisis if the president fails to recover.
